with cancer. John Follett, who featured in the Waikato Times 12 days of
Christmas series last year, died on Monday. He was 49. Mr Follett won a

Pro-life group unconvinced by stats

for celebration. Figures from Statistics New Zealand show there were just
over 18,200 abortions last year, 300 fewer than in the previous year. The

youth in Poland through his more than 26-year reign as head of the Roman

Madrid (Fides Service) - Support for the pro-family demonstration on June 18
in Madrid has been voiced by Imam Seg Munir of the Great Mosque in Madrid,
the Spanish Federation of Jewish Communities and by representatives of other
religious confessions. The event which aims to defend authentic marriage and
family is organised by the Spanish Family Forum and already 20 Spanish
Bishops have said they will take part in the march in the capital at 6pm on
Saturday...

Simplified catechism to be released 28 June

The shortened, simplified version of the "Catechism of the Catholic Church"
will be presented by Pope Benedict XVI during a 28 June liturgy at the
Vatican and will be available in Italian bookstores the following day.
According to Catholic News Service, Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls
said national bishops´ conferences would be responsible for translating the
volume into their local languages and for publishing the volume in
partnership with the Vatican publishing house...

Pope Halts Beatification of French Priest
Pope Benedict XVI has temporarily blocked the beatification of a French
priest and appointed a commission to investigate the priest's anti-Semitic
writings, drawing praise from Jewish leaders who called it a sign of the new
pope's sensitivity to other religions.

Catholic school restricts gay parents' roles
A Catholic school in Orange County, Calif., that allowed a same-sex couple
to enroll their sons last year has created a policy that would prevent the
two men -- or any other same-sex couple -- from appearing as a couple at
school functions.

At his 15 June general audience, Pope Benedict XVI talked to more than
20,000 people in St. Peter's Square, but he also spoke to someone on a
mobile phone and donned a fire chief's helmet.

Pope Benedict to issue Catechism Lite
Pope Benedict XVI will issue a condensed version of the Roman Catholic
Church's 865-page catechism, or book of official teaching, on June 28.

World Youth Day to Have an Ecumenical Side
