Police have arrested and charged one person after a fire that damaged a derelict hall in Christchurch. More than 50 firefighters spent hours trying to save Antonio Hall on Riccarton Rd after a "significant" fire erupted about 5.20pm on Friday. The hall, a large property with 279 rooms and once described as "one of the finest in Christchurch", was used as a Catholic seminary for three decades. Firefighters managed to save the hall's chapel and the east and west wings.

Saints Next Door video competition 2019
https://www.videocompetition.co.nz/

The Catholic Enquiry Centre is running a video competition open to all young people interested in sharing Pope Francis' Saint Next Door message. Pope Francis, in 2018, explained that we all can be holy. Being a Saint is not limited to high profile individuals. We all have a part to play in our communities. If we follow the values that Jesus taught, this help can improve the worlds we live in.

We need your help to tell the stories of the Saints that live in your world. Your hero could be a coach, teacher, friend, neighbour or family member. If you can capture the special things they do, then you could win yourself some cool new technology.  Registration deadline: 23 August 2019. Entries must be submitted online by 30 August 2019.
