Q&A: The Pope's astronomer on faith, science and aliens (photo)
Why is the Pope's astronomer here in New Zealand? And why is he on Great Barrier Island, of all places, and talking about aliens, of all things?

Migrant workers paid $8/hr, exploited, report reveals
Stories of migrant workers being exploited, with some paid as little as $8 an hour, have been revealed in a new report. In some cases, employers demanded they work for free, the report by Catholic advocacy and aid agency Caritas Aotearoa said.

'Stand up for what's right' on migrant worker exploitation
In response to ongoing accounts of the unfair treatment of migrant workers in New Zealand, Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand is calling for communities to 'stand up for what's right' and support this vulnerable group to get help in a report to be released on 8 September.

Tim Wilson on babies, religion, Donald Trump and his new novel (photos, video)
Tim Wilson is a changed man. In the past four years he has converted to Catholicism, met and married singer/songwriter Rachel, and had two "sparkling" children whose existence lights him up from the inside like a sky lantern.

'CRUX', edited by John L. Allen

'Crux' is a free online magazine of articles on Catholic issues. On Crux now ...

** Murdered nun in Haiti incarnated the spirit of Mother Teresa
While Pope Francis was declaring Mother Teresa a saint in Rome, another strong-willed nun who exemplified her spirit, Sister Isabel Sola Matas, was being killed in Haiti.

** Why sainthood for Mother Teresa matters after all - Crux
Mother Teresa certainly doesn't need the additional celebrity sainthood often provides in order to have an impact on the world, but her halo does put an exclamation point on an important insight about Catholicism.

** With a new document on the importance of the elderly, the Australian bishops seek to get ahead of the curve on what demographers sometimes call the 'Grayby Boom'

** In new book, Pope Benedict XVI exudes a rare humility
In a new book-length interview, presumably his last, with German journalist Peter Seewald, emeritus Pope Benedict XVI projects a humility rare for any world leader.
