Te Wharekura to lease surplus land to Verdon

The Ministry of Education has scrapped plans to move Te Wharekura O
Arowhenua from its current Invercargill site after an agreement was struck
about the use of surplus land at the school. The school will now forge ahead
with plans to have the ministry-owned land leased by neighbouring school
Verdon College.

Former convent to be relocated in Wanaka

For almost a century Pleasant Point's convent has been a recognisable
feature in the town, but now redundant it will soon be shifted to Wanaka. St
Marys parish decided to tender the building, which is beside St Josephs
Primary School, for removal or demolition about two years ago as the parish
could not take on the extensive renovations required...

Thomas Evan (Evan) Pollard, a former professor of New Testament at the
Theological Hall, Knox College, who died in Australia last month aged 85,
was both a theologian of international repute and a lively raconteur. During
his 18 years in Dunedin, he made notable contributions to the Presbyterian
Church of New Zealand, to international scholarship and to ecumenical
partnership...

at St Joseph’s Cathedral...

Clergy extradition protracted

Thirteen months after getting an extradition order for two Catholic
clergymen accused of sexually abusing children in their care, New Zealand
authorities are still awaiting a decision on their fate. Father Raymond
Garchow, 59, and a 70-year-old man whose name is suppressed, were ordered to
be extradited from Australia to New Zealand by a magistrate last February...

CanWest "apologises" for South Park offence (Media release 23 Mar 2006)
One could describe today's so-called 'sincere' apology from CanWest as
self-serving . They knew in advance that screening "Bloody Mary" would give
deep and widespread offence, given the correspondence they had received in
advance from Christian leaders and leaders of other faiths. Yet they still
went ahead and screened the programme...
