LENT 2017

Caritas's theme for the Bishops' Lent Appeal is "Your face, Lord, do I seek".

The Lent Appeal is run by Caritas on behalf of New Zealand's Catholic Bishops to support their work of charity and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable around the world, including in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Resources and the Lenten Reflection Programmes have been prepared for parishes, schools, small groups and the wider community and are available on the page linked above.

Peter Dornauf: The people speak up to save Hamilton's Euphrasie House (photo)
Sometimes people in the community just need to be given the right opportunity and forum in order to express their opinions about public matters that otherwise would simply be locked away in their hearts and nobody any the wiser. A case in point is the issue of Euphrasie House on Clyde Street, a rare Spanish Mission-style building which the Catholic Diocese plans to demolish.

STATION XV

Episode 114 — Priests, poverty, parishes, policy and a pooch (March 16, 2017)

Pope Francis is going to examine the possibility of ordaining married men to help address priest shortages in some remote parts of the world and he has also challenged us to be more generous in the way we respond to those who are asking for our charity. In New Zealand, plans have been unveiled for an Archdiocesan Synod in Wellington, to be held later this year, looking at the present and future of the Church there. In the US, Catholic bishops and ministry leaders remain deeply concerned about President Trump's approach to refugees and asylum seekers. But a "Franciscan" dog might be able to bring a smile to our faces to wrap up the show. James and Gavin welcome a new podcaster, Anna, to this episode. Enjoy the show!
