approval of the new Book VI of the Church's Code of Canon Law which
toughens and extends sanctions against sexual abuse. Bishop of
Hamilton Stephen Lowe, secretary of the NZ Catholic Bishops
Conference, says the new code makes it clear that bishops must take
decisive action when abuse is reported to them.

earthquakes, the Christchurch Heritage Awards Charitable Trust
broadened the awards to encompass all of Canterbury. This geographical
spread meant that for the 2021 awards, such entries as the Sacred
Heart Basilica in Timaru, together with the Balmoral Forest Fire
Lookout in Hurunui, and the Rakaia Gorge No 1 Bridge in Selwyn were
eligible.

A much-loved Christchurch priest had been drinking before he died from
a blunt force head injury when his motorbike collided head-on with
another vehicle and his helmet came off. Father Graeme Blackburn died
in 2018 when he lost control of his Ducati motorbike on Purau Port
Levy Rd on Banks Peninsula and crashed into an oncoming
four-wheel-drive.

the Year 13 head boy of Chanel College and has just won a coveted cup

Roadshow to visit their school in Invercargill on Friday. The roadshow
