The New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference has made a significant
change to the proposal to renew the country's dedication to Our Lady
Assumed into Heaven. The proposed hikoi of a special artwork around
Aotearoa New Zealand – which was to happen in the three months leading
to the Feast of the Assumption on 15 August – has been postponed.

A man honoured by the Pope for his service to the Catholic Diocese of
Palmerston North says it is recognition for the work of the entire
church. Tony Murphy was awarded the title Knight of the Order of Saint
Gregory the Great for his service to the church at a ceremony at the
Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Palmerston North on Tuesday, a title
awarded by Pope Francis.

The University of Otago has appointed its first lecturer in
chaplaincy, the Very Rev Dr Graham Redding, amid a growing national
shortage of chaplains.
110-year-old Catholic church closing in Brooklyn

Another Brooklyn (Wellington) church is to close because of
unaffordable maintenance costs and a shrinking congregation. St
Bernard's parish church on Taft Street held its last mass on April
10th, and is to close in coming months.

The Catholic Church has confirmed it is investigating claims children
from a Wellington boys' home were prostituted out to Church officials.
The allegations were made at a Royal Commission of Inquiry hearing on
Tuesday by Keith Wiffin, a former ward of the state who lived at Epuni
Boys' Home in Lower Hutt in the 1970s.

General Dame Patsy Reddy in Wellington last week. Mrs Allen was
presented the Queen's Service Medal for services to the community. Her

Today marks a milestone for Tamaki Makaurau with the launch of the
tunnel boring machine at New Zealand's largest infrastructure project,
the $4.4 billion City Rail Link. Father Christopher Denham of the
Catholic St Patrick and St Joseph's Cathedral blessed the machine and
the teams who will operate her in acknowledgement to St Barbara, the
patron saint of miners and others working underground.
