'NZ CATHOLIC' Issue 231, Jan. 29-Feb. 4, 2006
On the feast of Saint Francis de Sales, patron of journalists, New Zealand’s
national Catholic newspaper launched its re-designed website:
http://www.nzcatholic.org.nz . The site offers an abundance local and
international news together with daily Mass readings and links to syndicated
columnists. For founding Editor Pat McCarthy, “the aim was to develop a
vision for the NZ Catholic site that would be complementary to the newspaper
and support its mission. Most of the content of NZ Catholic newspaper will
not appear on the website and most of the website content will not be in the
paper�. For his part Webmaster James Bergin believes the website will be a
huge asset to Catholics throughout New Zealand. “This website is a big step
forward for the Catholic Church in New Zealand. Every NZ Catholic now has an
invaluable information asset that I’m sure will continue for many years to
come to help spread the message of Christ and his Church�. (adapted from a

The Da Vinci Code to be given an adult rating to prevent children being
influenced by its "insidious lies" about the Catholic Church. "Just as we
protect children from explicit sex and violence, it would seem to make sense
to protect them from violence that is more subtle and thus more insidious,"
spokesman Marc Carroggio said. "Any adult with a minimum of education can
