Will Ireland Be Christian in 2030? Speaking notes of Dublin Archbishop
Diarmuid Martin, Primate of Ireland
http://www.zenit.org/english/visualizza.phtml?sid=74415
[Summary: Western societies, even when de-Christianized, retain vestiges of
a Christian culture which possesses a unique capacity for moral cohesion.
Ireland is undergoing a process of secularization which many see moving
towards a secularized society which still turns to a cultural religious
ethos to hold together and build a consensus around a network of values. If
the Church can build welcoming communities of mature faith, they will put
flesh and blood onto the nebulous Christian ethos which Ireland will inherit
in the coming decades.]

FILM REVIEW

'Luther'
Summary: Sweeping but flawed historical drama about the life of Martin
Luther (Joseph Fiennes), the 16th-century German monk instrumental in
triggering the Protestant Reformation. Though making the issues and
personalities accessible to modern viewers, Eric Till's biopic veers from
historical accuracy, oversimplifying complex religious and political issues,
glossing over Luther's shortcomings with a revisionist glaze, while painting
the Church as worldly and self-indulgent. Recurring violence and theological
complexities. (New Zealand censor's rating: M - contains low-level violence)
