A Life Story: A pioneering nurse who set new standards for her profession (photos)
In 1999, Mike Sexton's adoptive parents had died, and he thought it was time to seek out his birth mother. He encountered in Maureen Laws an independent, well-educated, well-travelled woman with a great many threads to her life: a pioneering nurse, a devoted Roman Catholic, and a lifelong animal lover.

Churches could launch own investigation into historical abuse (video and text)
The head of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into historical abuse in state care has suggested churches could launch their own internal investigation. Sir Anand Satyanand told Newshub Nation he has met with Anglican and Catholic leaders, who "expressed a willingness to be engaged".

STATION XV

Episode 126 — Exhortation, Examination, Information and Profanation (April 17, 2018)

There's not much rejoicing in New Zealand, as child abuse again dominates headlines, but an investigation in that country appears set to exclude churches from its scope, despite Catholic and Anglican leaders calling for their inclusion. Back in Rome, a gathering of young people has produced a document that — to a large extent — calls for the Church to better explain why it believes what it believes. In the US, Facebook has acknowledged some errors in deleting Catholic content, while in Brazil, it is others who are calling out the errors of the ways of a parish that went a bit overboard in modernising the liturgy. ** 2019 'Catholic Woodstock' won't just be for youth, but by youth
World Youth Day, a massive gathering of young people from around the world that's become something like the Woodstock of the Catholic Church, was founded in 1985 for young people. Spokespersons say the January 2019 edition in Panama, however, also will be organized by young people themselves...

** Irish prelate says summit must uphold marriage but not homophobia
One of Ireland's top bishops says that while the upcoming World Meeting of Families this August must offer a "clear and positive vision for family," rooted in the traditional understanding of marriage, the Church also must not be marred by homophobia.
