Each year the Catholic Bishops of New Zealand set aside a week in September for Social Justice Week. In 2017 it runs from 10-16 September and the theme is Weaving bonds of belonging: Knowing our neighbours.

SC's Marist Brothers prepare for 200th anniversary (photo)
Memories of cassocks, clerical collars and kindness will be shared at a celebration of a Catholic institution founded 200 years ago. The Order of Marist Brothers has a rich history in Timaru and the association will be marked as the order marks its bicentenary in early September.

Otumoetai's 'Mr Tennis' Bernie Coleman dies (photo)
Bernie Coleman was the "go-to man" at Otumoetai Tennis Club and could often be seen riding around Tauranga on his e-bike - probably on his way to the clubhouse he built. He died on August 18, aged 79.

Vivian Newton King was a meticulous and personable businessman (photo)
Vivian King died in New Plymouth on August 19 aged 101. He was a meticulous book keeper who enjoyed tending to his rose garden and chatting with friends at the  RSA club. His great uncle was Sir Frederick Truby King, the founder of Plunket and Karitane Hospital.

The death of a Kiwi woman on holiday in Rarotonga has motivated family to donate to the island's health services. Bruce Robertson, the husband of Waikato woman Michelle Robertson, who died on August 5, has spoken out about the unforeseen circumstances surrounding his wife's death.
