Cardinal George Pell, the Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, who turned 67 this
month, has become a convert to the potential of the virtual world for
evangelising. Yesterday the Catholic Church embraced the online social
networking craze, joining a site set up to link Catholics arriving in Sydney
for World Youth Day. Cardinal Pell will share his profile (Relationship
Status: Consecrated single) views and experiences, and invite pilgrims
worldwide to become his friends via the new World Youth Day website at

Fitzroy priest Father Frank Twiss says a woman's fraudulent attempts to get
money from churches is not what is meant by "God helps those who help
themselves". The woman, described as Spanish looking, of medium build and
who gives her name as Paolo Amorante, has been approaching churches around
the North Island for money...

of Piotr Grzybowski's 28-year-old son was discovered in Rimutaka Forest
Park, exactly a week after he had gone missing while tramping in the park on

Historic sex abuse trial begins

The head of a former Catholic boys school in Christchurch has gone on trial
on historic sex abuse charges. Eleven boys who were at the Marylands School
in the 1970's are alleging sexual abuse by Brother Roger Moloney who is
facing a total of 30 charges...

Catholic order won't complain about spending, trial told

a former head of the Order of St John of God in Australia, New Zealand, and
Papua-New Guinea. A report on the spending by Brother Peter Burke was
completed about a month ago, after the end of his three terms of office as
the orderĂ¢€™s Provincial, a High Court trial in Christchurch was told today...
