Pandemic inspires Catholic rededication of Aotearoa NZ to Mary
New Zealand's Catholic bishops will gather with parishioners from around the country in Wellington this Sunday for a pandemic-inspired special Mass to renew an 1838 dedication of Aotearoa New Zealand to Mary mother of God.

Hundreds attend community Mass for crash victims in Timaru (text and video)
The team mates of 15-year-old Niko Hill, who was one of five teenagers killed in a crash near Timaru on Saturday, have performed a rousing haka in honour of him, and the others who died. The Roncalli College under-16 rugby team performed the haka outside the Sacred Heart Basilica in Timaru following a community Mass on Thursday morning.

Church leaders have launched a campaign urging people to get their COVID-19 vaccinations, fighting against "echo chambers" of misinformation on social media amongst their communities. "We know that 80 percent of Pasifika communities have some sort of affiliation with churches, church communities," John Kleinsman, director of the Catholic Church's The Nathaniel Centre for Bioethics, told The AM Show on Tuesday.

After seven years in the role, Sacred Heart Girls' College principal Paula Wells has resigned to take on a role at Samuel Marsden Collegiate School in Wellington.

Catholic school in Gore adds cultural tattoos to uniform policy
A 16-year-old Gore student has received her first ta moko, which has coincided with her school's uniform policy being adjusted to make room for cultural tattoos. Year 11 pupil at St Peter's College Dixie-Leigh Burr had been considering getting a ta moko for some time, and after discussions with her mum and koro (elder), she received their blessing.

Feilding students excluded from school after 'inappropriate sexual behaviour'
Three students have been excluded from Feilding's Hato Paora College after a police investigation into what the boarding school is calling "inappropriate sexual behaviour".
