No live final hard to swallow for The Pills
The tickets were sold out, the stage was set and the songs were polished. But Oamaru band The Pills will have to wait a little longer for their shot at stardom after Covid-19 forced the postponement of the Smokefreerockquest national final. The St Kevin's College pupils will travel to Auckland next month to record their two songs – Sonder and Lullaby – streamed as part of the online final.

No abuse hearing in Dunedin called 'slap in the face'
A decision to not hold a Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care hearing in Dunedin has been criticised as a ''repulsive slap in the face'' for Southern survivors.

The terror attack on an Auckland supermarket leads this month's episode, with the New Zealand bishops condemning the attack, praying for the injured victims and urging the pursuit of peace. Across the Tasman in Australia, faith-based health care workers are worried about the impact that assisted dying laws will have on them, while back in New Zealand, support is being sought for incoming Afghan refugees. In the United States, the bishops are calling for more civility in public discourse. After another heavy show, maybe we need some time to kick back and relax. Foosball, anyone?

Archbishop calls new Aussie assisted dying laws a 'defeat for life
After lawmakers in Queensland, Australia, voted overwhelmingly in favor of a measure allowing for Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD), one of the country's top bishops condemned the move as a "defeat for life."
