Church doors open again after lockdown
Palmerston North's Catholic churches are resuming services this weekend now restrictions on gatherings have eased under Covid-19 alert level 2.

Local churches are excited to move away from technology as they prepare for the first services in their chapels in nine weeks. Catholic Parish Whanganui was wasting no time opening its doors, with parish priest Father Vaughn Leslie saying it planned a service at 5.30pm yesterday. 

Some South Canterbury churches open for services
Work on two of Timaru's historic churches has been delayed due to Covid-19 but one is still opening its doors for the first time in eight weeks on Sunday.

$120,000 granted to strenghten Wellington's Sacred Heart Cathedral 
The Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral in Hill Street, Thorndon, has received a "one-off" 'out of round' contribution from the Wellington City Council's Built Heritage Incentive Fund to contribute to its $3.3 million strengthening and allow it to be reopened.

Northland kaumatua Hohepa Rudolph will be remembered as man who was strong in his Maori culture and was known for his kindness and generosity. Hohepa Rudolph - of Te Uri o Tai, Te Rarawa, Ngati Pakahi and Ngati Kahu - passed away on Saturday following a lengthy period of illness.

TVNZ reporter Daniel Faitaua's late brother an 'inspirational teacher' 
Anthony Faitaua, a well-regarded educator known for his work in the Pasifika community, has been honoured after he died of cancer. On Friday, a memorial event was held for Anthony at his former school – Catholic Cathedral College in Christchurch – with family, friends, students and staff gathering to do 25 press-ups in his honour, after doing so for 25 days.

Nelson tennis player Harry Pugh wants to make a 'racquet' on the court as soon as he can. The 14-year-old Garin College student and Richmond club member's tennis exploits have been equal parts impressive and frustrating in the last 12 months. 

Schools do the 'best they can' to keep children apart
Schools in Nelson will not change Covid-19 restrictions imposed during school hours, after the Government increased the limit on gatherings to 100 people
