Gothic fairy-tale castle for sale in Epsom was once an orphanage
"The rarest and fairest in the land," says the listing for the Gothic fairy-tale castle, Clifton, built for concrete baron Josiah Clifton Firth on the slopes of Mt Eden in 1873. It is also significant for its subsequent associations with Mother Mary Joseph Aubert (1835-1926), the first person in New Zealand to be recommended for canonisation by the Catholic Church.

Steady interest in Teschemakers property
There has been "steady" interest in the sale of Teschemakers Resort, with its collection of old school buildings, a cottage and a chapel, real estate agent Robin Hyndman says. The former Catholic girls' boarding school-turned accommodation, wedding venue and conference centre, south of Oamaru, has been owned by Penguin Pacific Ltd since 2017.

Former Manawatu Catholic church and rugby administrator Tony Murphy has died. Murphy was the manager of the Catholic Diocese of Palmerston North for 18 years and was chairman of the Manawatu Rugby Union for six years.

Accused priest still on parish duty
A Catholic priest remained serving in his parish despite an active allegation of sexual abuse being lodged against him. And the Catholic archbishop of Wellington, who oversees the North Island parish in which the priest serves, was not informed of the complaint.
