Community meal 'tapping into vein of generosity'
A community event which combines nourishing food with a chance to form new friendships is returning for its third year. The free community meal, organised by St Vincent de Paul  and held in the supper room of  St Joseph's church in New Plymouth, kicks off again on Tuesday, February 5.

Local Filipinos celebrate Sinulog festival (video)
Dunedin continued to showcase its diversity of culture yesterday with the local Filipino community celebrating their Catholic Sinulog festival. Those at the Sunday mass at the Saint Patrick's Basilica in South Dunedin were treated to a Filipino procession. The celebrations were to honour the Santo Nino, a religious relic icon of Jesus as a child. 

Rugby club removes 'inappropriate' award named after paedophile
An Auckland rugby club has apologised for awarding a cup named after a Catholic clergyman convicted of sexually abusing boys. Marist Brothers Old Boys Rugby Club's annual award for most tries scored was named the Brother Claudius Cup.

St Patrick's College, Wellington: School's out for Wellington Phoenix defender Liberato Cacace
Wellington Phoenix defender Liberato Cacace believes he has taken his game to a new level, now that he no longer has to rush back to school after training or study on the flight to away games. The 18-year-old produced one of the best performances of his fledgling professional football career in last weekend's 1-0 win over Melbourne City. That performance landed Cacace in the A-League Team of the Week for the third time this season, with each of those honours coming after he graduated from St Patrick's College at the end of the year, achieving NCEA Level 3 with an attendance record of just 38 per cent.
