Former British Labour MP John Battle became Blair’s faith envoy not long before the September 11, 2001, attacks in the United States. Battle, who is in New Zealand as a guest of the Centre for Theology and Public Issues at the University of Otago, spoke at Christ Church Cathedral yesterday. ‘‘It’s much calmer here. A Catholic preaching in an Anglican church? That would be a real big event in Leeds,’’ he said.
