December 1, Pope Francis formally recognised that Suzanne Aubert (Mother Mary Joseph in the Catholic Church) was a woman of heroic virtue and entitled to be called "Venerable". This declaration confirmed that she is officially on the road to recognition as a saint. If she is canonised, she will become New Zealand's first-ever saint.
