WORLD MISSION SUNDAY 23 October 2022

World Mission Sunday is held in every Catholic community world-wide. Missio is the public-facing name of the Pontifical Mission Societies, the Catholic Church's official charity for overseas mission. Missio Aotearoa represents the Pontifical Mission Societies in New Zealand.

Missio Aotearoa's aim is to promote awareness of the mission of the Catholic Church – to present the good news of Jesus Christ to all peoples, and to generate spiritual, material and financial support for those working in mission and Third World territories.

Has the Vatican forgotten to replace New Zealand's bishops?
Has the Vatican forgotten to replace New Zealand's bishops? Two of the six Catholic dioceses in the country are currently vacant. One, the Diocese of Hamilton, has lacked a bishop for almost a year. The other, the Diocese of Palmerston North, has been leaderless for more than three years. The Pillar spoke with clergy in New Zealand about possible reasons for the delay. They asked to remain anonymous given the small, tight-knit nature of the local Catholic community ...

STATION XV (podcast)

Episode 178 — Queen, Quitting, Quake, Quirkiness

As the world — and especially the Commonwealth and the Christian world — stopped to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Catholic leaders featured prominently at her funeral. She was remembered as a woman of deep faith, among other virtues. At the other end of the world, bishops in New Zealand and Australia have published documents to guide schools as they seek to support gender diverse students. In other news on either side of the Tasman Sea, a Christian's resignation from a football club has caused a furore, while a New Zealand parish has had cause to celebrate the opening of a new parish after the devastating 2010-11 earthquakes. And as winter approaches in Ireland, priests are proposing a quirky solution to the problem of high power prices: More clothes and shorter Masses. Join Anna, James and Gavin for this month's episode.
