FROM THE SECULAR PRESS

DEAR READERS,
Since Saturday, Stuff Ltd, the publisher of several major New Zealand newspapers, has put much of their significant content behind a paywall. Consequently, an important follow-up article about an attack on Christchurch pastor Father Alister Castillo is blocked. There appears to be no way around this. The papers have been taken off PressReader. They can still be read via Ebsco (which I access through my public library's website) but there is no way of sharing the article by a link that will work for everyone. This is the best I can do ...

How dare you exploit goodness: beaten priest
Gill Sinead, The Press, Apr 29, 2023, pg. A10
A Christchurch priest who was left bloodied and bruised from a senseless attack on Good Friday hopes what happened to him doesn't stop others from doing good deeds. Father Alister Castillo, 33, advised anyone struggling to process the incident to keep the attackers in their prayers. "With prayer, there is a practical aspect in that. It directs anger towards something . . . I don't know their background. Maybe their families are dysfunctional. Maybe there is peer pressure, or group mentality? "Use that prayer not just on them, but their families and whatever situation they're in" ... (Paywalled. Accessible via Ebsco through the public library).

English is not Sepiuta Skudder's first language. With this winter looking to be one of the coldest on record, Lee Pepping and Suzanne Rose have been working hard and have raised more than $26,000 for their latest Thermals for Children programme. Since 2017 the two women, supported by the Catholic Parish of Hastings, have been delivering thermal tops and warm pants to primary school children throughout Flaxmere, Hastings and Havelock North.

St Peter's College in Gore seeks support to govern school
https://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/131874748/st-peters-college-in-gore-seeks-support-to-govern-school
St Peter's College in Gore has been placed into limited statutory management, but the move "in no way suggests closure", the Education Ministry says. St Peter's College is a co-educational state-integrated Catholic secondary school with about 450 students.
