A complainant said that, to a Christian, the advertisement was extremely offensive. Advertiser GB Ela apologised for any offence caused and said the billboard had been withdrawn and would not be reappearing. The board found the billboard would have been likely to cause serious and/or widespread offence. In particular that would have been the case at the time the complaint was received, in early December, the month in which Christians celebrate Christmas.

Iraqi Christians consecrate country to Mary Queen of Peace (full text) On Friday afternoon, a number of Christian Churches in Iraq consecrated the country to the Virgin Mary. The solemn act took place at in the Chaldean-rite Cathedral of St. Joseph in Baghdad, before a statue of the pilgrim Virgin, Queen of Peace. For the past few days, the Christians of Baghdad have gathered to pray around the statue of the pilgrim Virgin, in many churches of the city. The statue has been on pilgrimage in Iraq since 1998. The announcement of the consecration was made on Sunday, March 16, in all the churches of the capital. The act of consecration was to be attended by representatives of the Catholic Church and of other Christian denominations.

"A licking for Paddy (full text)" Otago Daily Times 18 March 2003 It might have been a cool 13degC yesterday morning but that did not stop 950 Catholic school pupils from enjoying their "Irish" ice blocks. The lime ice blocks were part of the Catholic Primary Schools fun sports morning, held at Bathgate Park, to celebrate St Patrick's Day. St Patrick's School principal Stephen Hopkins said the day had become a regular event. "It's a fun day, not really competitive," he said. Pupils from every Catholic school in Dunedin and St Mary's School, Milton, took part in round-robin activities, including sack races, tug-of-war, gumboot throwing and egg-and-spoon races.

Payouts range from about $30,000 to $100,000. Twenty-three men of those offered money have formally accepted.....
