There is a warning not to put too much stock in a UNESCO report on
education. The global study claims there is no way of knowing if the
1989 reforms of New Zealand's education system has been beneficial. It
says we lack minority input at Board of Trustee level. Catholic
Education Office Chief Executive Pat Lynch says the problem with the
report is that it has only taken a once-over-lightly look at New
Zealand. He says it did not even begin to compare today's system with
the old one and it is not an in-depth study of New Zealand and is
unbalanced. He says it is disappointing that an international report
would make these damning statements without taking a close look at what
is going on.
