Sister Noelene lives at Mount St Joseph in Whanganui and says if the
world wants to survive it has to have a different view of God. "He's
in the earth, other people, other religions, all life ... our only
hope for the future of planet earth is .... a spirituality that
accepts everyone and everything and looks after it with the dignity it
deserves." With those sorts of thoughts it's not surprising that when
Sister Noelene returned to St Joseph in 2003, where she was a
novitiate in the 1960's, she looked at the five hectare property with
new eyes and saw potential ...

STATION XV

http://station15.co.nz

Episode 91
April 16, 2015

The Station 15 crew is basking in the post-Easter glow, but the Pope's
Easter message and its plea for peace around the world highlights the
great challenges that are being faced by many, including Christians in
various parts of the globe. Despite those challenges, the Church
continues to grow, but some experts are predicting quite a change in
the religious adherence of people over the next several decades. Maybe
that will help us better understand people of other religions or none,
but it's too late for a New Zealander who's been jailed in Myanmar for
causing religious offence. Meanwhile, some people hope it's not too
late to have another attempt at an English translation of the Mass.
All this and more with Helen, Gabriel, James, Don and Gavin in a busy
episode of The 15th Station.

Mount Street Cemetery in Kelburn is the final resting place of some of
Wellington's earliest colonial residents, and volunteers around the
city are ensuring they are not forgotten. Welllington's first nuns and
priests are buried at the cemetery, along with Roman Catholic settler
families.

150 years of news: Pope's visit to Wellington blustery with little fuss (photo)
http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/67556531/Pope-gave-sick-and-dying-special-anointment
It was wind rather than controversy which plagued Pope John Paul II's
visit to Wellington in 1986. A crowd of about 25,000 at Athletic Park
were buffeted by the breeze as the 66-year-old pontiff celebrated mass
at the rugby ground on November 23, 1986.

Pope Francis's Divorce Dilemma
http://time.com/3767163/pope-francis-divorce-dilemma/?xid=tcoshare

Though one probably should be cautious in using such language about a
religious leader, Pope Francis seems to have painted himself into a
"damned if he does, damned if he doesn't" corner with regard to a
mounting Catholic debate over divorce. Somebody is going to feel
betrayed no matter what he does ...

Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand: Lent in schools
http://www.caritas.org.nz/schools/lent-schools
For Lent 2015 the theme is "Light a fire in the heart of the world",
taken from Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The
Joy of the Gospel).

The primary purpose of this year's Lenten resources is to educate
young people about the vulnerability of nations to natural disasters.
The aim of Caritas and its partners in the Pacific and in the
Philippines, is to go beyond the stage of simple material distribution
of basic supplies to rebuilding in such a way that communities are
less vulnerable to future events.

The resources are available on the linked Website.

Confrontation, assassination and reconciliation

Lucy, James and Gavin offer their musings on the big Catholic stories
of the month, and in New Zealand, the biggest story was the New
Zealand bishops quickly and publicly pledging their support for the
Government's decision to send military personnel to the Middle East to
help train those who are fighting against Islamic State/IS/ISIS/ISIL.
As the violence and barbaric acts escalates, the bishops said people
"can no longer watch on from the sidelines", and echoing comments from
Pope Francis on the threat of Islamic State. The Pope makes two other
appearances in the show, talking about the possibility he could be
assassinated, and also for his decision to allow a homeless man to be
buried inside the Vatican. Back in New Zealand, there are concerns
about the sanctity of the confessional. All that and more in this
month's episode of The 15th Station.

Absolute freedom to market anything anyhow not in our interests says
Bishop (10 March 2015)

Policies that are driven by ideology rather than principle are placing
more and more pressure on the least well off, Palmerston North Bishop
Charles Drennan told a crowd of 500 gathered in the Palmerston North
Square to protest the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) on
Saturday 7 March...

'RESTLESS PRESS'

http://www.restlesspress.net

This week:

** Letters to my future husband - Jessica Claire
I wrote my thirty-fifth letter to my husband tonight. I sealed it in a
blue envelope and added it to the stack of letters bound with a purple
ribbon. It's getting tattered after all these years of holding my
written love together neatly. I hope he likes reading...

** Anima Christi: Short And Deep Prayer - Sophie Boffa
Every day, for several months, I have prayed the Anima Christi. It is
an old prayer, dating from around the fourteenth century, and
amazingly deep. Its twelve lines contain such great theology, and
great devotion, that it enlivens our thought and richly deepens our
understanding of Christ...

** 5 Favourite Vegetarian Meals - Lucy Watt
We are now a couple of weeks deep into the season of Lent and I am
fairly confident that there will be many people out there who have
come to the end of their vegetarian meal repertoire for Fridays...

** Its Okay To Mess Up - Lindsey Graham
Its okay to mess up, and it's okay to fall down. Its okay, we're only
human; We can't do it all on our own – we were never meant to be
alone. But we are so blessed to have a God that's greater, and a whole
lot tougher than everything we face on a day-to-day basis ...

** A Tale Of Two Suitors: Finding Mr Right - Emily Shaw
Finding Mr Right is complicated. Contemporary dating rituals prove a
veritable minefield and those of us who desire romantic coupling are
often left jaded and disillusioned. But there is one fail safe way to
determine if you've found 'the one' because there is a glaring
distinction between Mr Good-Enough and Mr Right ...

Here are five Francis forecasts for Año Tres
http://www.cruxnow.com/church/2015/03/13/a-francis-forecast-for-ano-tres/

Today is the beginning of Year Three of the Pope Francis era, as the
pontiff completes two full years in office since his surprise election
in March 2013. Although the Vatican says there are no festivities
planned aside from giving most employees the day off, that hasn't
stopped the rest of the world from taking stock of the spiritual
tsunami this maverick pope has become...
