A teacher credited with helping nurture the musical talents of Neil Finn, Mike Chunn and Th' Dudes has been accused of being a serial paedophile, who would abuse teenage boys during tramping trips in the Tararua Ranges. Ray Gannaway, a Catholic Marist Brother who was known as 'Brother Ivan' during his teaching career in Auckland and Wellington was celebrated as a great musician and educator when he died in 2018.

A man shot dead alongside his daughter in Glendene eight days ago died a hero, mourners were told at the pair's funeral in West Auckland.
The 75-year-old and his 34-year-old daughter, along with the woman's dog, were found dead by police at a Barrys Rd property at 3pm on July 15. The father and daughter were farewelled by dozens of family and friends at a requiem mass in Holy Cross Catholic Church on Saturday afternoon, where several mourners spoke of the father's final act of devotion to his daughter.
