NZ Catholic to cease printing, and transition to a new digital publication
NZ Catholic, the national Catholic newspaper published by the Bishop of Auckland, is to cease its paper edition at the end of June. From July, the newspaper will be distributed free via the Internet as a monthly publication. A final photographic commemorative edition on paper will  be published on 30 June.

BUILDING BRIDGES INITIATIVE

In Loyola University Chicago's Building Bridges initiative, in partnership with the Pontifical Commission for Latin America and with the support of  other Vatican dicasteries, university students in different regions listen, dialogue and discern common concerns and hopes that a representative then shares with Pope Francis during a live Zoom call.

The June 20 call was the fourth Building Bridges event and it connected students from the Asia Pacific region, among them a New Zealand representative, Seamus Lohrey, at Waikato University. In the video, Seamus' contribution can be seen and heard here:

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, urged an end to the war between Israel and Hamas after his May 15-19 visit to Gaza."I entered Gaza during the week of Pentecost, in which we pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Pope Francis tells CBS News women cannot receive Holy Orders, even as deacons
CBS journalist Norah O'Donnell asked the pontiff if women will ever have "the opportunity to be a deacon and participate as a clergy member in the church?" Francis answered quickly, "No." When pressed, he explained: "If it is deacons with Holy Orders, no. But women have always had, I would say, the function of deaconesses without being deacons, right?
