Film illustrates life's simple joys (photo)

Watching Gardening with Soul the other day, I was captivated by the
lively and lovely Sister Loyola. She's a nonagenarian nun at
Wellington's Home of Compassion in Island Bay, and Gardening with
Soul, love faith and compost, is a film about her gardening life. And
it's absolute magic.

Flyover may drive KFC out
http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/9177354/Flyover-may-drive-KFC-out
The controversial Basin Reserve flyover already has its fair share of
critics, and lovers of craft beer and fried chicken could soon be on
that list if construction goes ahead as planned. The Catholic
Archdiocese of Wellington also opposed the flyover, in part, because
of the effect it would have on St Joseph's Church in Brougham St.

Church jury out on whether Ward church to stay or go (photo)
http://www.stuff.co.nz/marlborough-express/news/9169552/Church-jury-out-on-whether-Ward-church-to-stay-or-go
The Catholic Church is waiting for engineering advice before deciding
whether to demolish the church at Ward. A small structure made from
bricks and concrete in the 1920s, the church was damaged in the August
16 earthquake, with cracks in its tower and water damage from a broken
water cylinder in a meeting room.

The Catholic Church has accepted five fresh claims of child abuse,
including allegations against a former priest already convicted of
violating children.

A pope for the Catholic middle; countdown to the G-8
http://ncronline.org/blogs/all-things-catholic/pope-catholic-middle-countdown-g-8

Having spent the early part of this week in Australia and New Zealand,
I'm arriving today in Rome, where the buzz is about Pope Francis'
blockbuster interview with 16 Jesuit publications around the world ...
Standing back from the details, what seems clear -- not just from the
interview, but from the balance of the pope's first six months -- is
that the election of Francis in March did not just signify the rise of
the first pope from the developing world or a rejection of patterns of
business management in the Vatican held responsible for the leaks
scandal and other meltdowns. Perhaps most fundamentally, it
represented a breakthrough victory for the Catholic middle ...
