Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand: Lent in schools

For Lent 2015 the theme is "Light a fire in the heart of the world",
taken from Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The
Joy of the Gospel).
The primary purpose of this year's Lenten resources is to educate
young people about the vulnerability of nations to natural disasters.
The aim of Caritas and its partners in the Pacific and in the
Philippines, is to go beyond the stage of simple material distribution
of basic supplies to rebuilding in such a way that communities are
less vulnerable to future events.

This week:
** Letters to my future husband - Jessica Claire
I wrote my thirty-fifth letter to my husband tonight. I sealed it in a
blue envelope and added it to the stack of letters bound with a purple
ribbon. It's getting tattered after all these years of holding my
written love together neatly. I hope he likes reading...
** Anima Christi: Short And Deep Prayer - Sophie Boffa
Every day, for several months, I have prayed the Anima Christi. It is
an old prayer, dating from around the fourteenth century, and
amazingly deep. Its twelve lines contain such great theology, and
great devotion, that it enlivens our thought and richly deepens our
understanding of Christ...
** 5 Favourite Vegetarian Meals - Lucy Watt
We are now a couple of weeks deep into the season of Lent and I am
fairly confident that there will be many people out there who have
come to the end of their vegetarian meal repertoire for Fridays...
** Its Okay To Mess Up - Lindsey Graham
Its okay to mess up, and it's okay to fall down. Its okay, we're only
human; We can't do it all on our own – we were never meant to be
alone. But we are so blessed to have a God that's greater, and a whole
lot tougher than everything we face on a day-to-day basis ...
** A Tale Of Two Suitors: Finding Mr Right - Emily Shaw
Finding Mr Right is complicated. Contemporary dating rituals prove a
veritable minefield and those of us who desire romantic coupling are
often left jaded and disillusioned. But there is one fail safe way to
determine if you've found 'the one' because there is a glaring
distinction between Mr Good-Enough and Mr Right ...

March 1 2015
We meet Debbie Garrett from Real Choices Australia. Debbie is not a
Catholic. She is a post-abortion counsellor and health researcher who
recently showed a university audience the ways in which abortion
affects the health of women. We also feature music for Lent from the
Kolbe Singers, a university-based Catholic choral ensemble.

'RESTLESS PRESS'
http://www.restlesspress.net
This week:
** Finding Peace After Traumatic Events (Matt O'Connell)
"In the wake of the devastating earthquakes in Christchurch in
September 2010 and February 2011, I lost my peace. Fr Jacques
Phillipe's book Searching For and Maintaining Interior Peace and a
homily from Pope Benedict XVI helped me find that peace again. Here is
my story..."
** Beautiful Mummy Bodies (Jacinta Malone)
"I was 9 months pregnant with Baby Number 3 and 'big' was not an
exaggeration. I don't do cute-basketball-belly. I'm more like
"Are-you-sure-you-aren't-having-twins-or-at-least-3-basketballs?" type
belly ..."
** A Child's First Educators: The Family (Carrie McCormack)
Life consists of many meals and plenty of work.
** A Poopy, Facebook-Free(Ish) Lunge Into Lent (Lucy O'Donoghue)
"So, how's your Lent going, eh? Mine started with a bang. And that's
not a metaphor..."
** 6 Ways To Fit Prayer Into A Busy Life (Chelsea Houghton)
"I'm a mother of four children ranging in age from 1 to 5. I run a
website (Restless Press), and there are numerous projects, people and
constant events going on in my life. How do I fit a prayer life into
that? ..."

Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand: Lent in schools
http://www.caritas.org.nz/schools/lent-schools
For Lent 2015 the theme is "Light a fire in the heart of the world",
taken from Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The
Joy of the Gospel).
The primary purpose of this year's Lenten resources is to educate
young people about the vulnerability of nations to natural disasters.
The aim of Caritas and its partners in the Pacific and in the
Philippines, is to go beyond the stage of simple material distribution
of basic supplies to rebuilding in such a way that communities are
less vulnerable to future events.
The resources are available on the linked Website.

An overstaying Chilean family will sit in a church car park today
waiting for the phone call telling them if they can stay in New
Zealand. The family sought refuge at three different Christchurch
churches yesterday afternoon after police visited their home on
Monday. They ended up staying in the car park of Christ the King

Station XV: Episode 89 — Kids, botox and 20-minute homilies (February 16 2015)
It's hard to believe it's almost Lent, but Lucy, Don, James and Gavin
have got their penance in early with the latest jam-packed episode of
The 15th Station. Pope Francis weeks-long unpacking of families in
today's world features prominently, with his comments that couples who
choose not to have children are selfish and his green light for
fathers to smack their kids causing a double stir. A Vatican document
that suggested elective cosmetic surgery was a "burqa of the flesh"
also raised eyebrows. Back in New Zealand, there are fears Mass in
Maori — the language of indigenous New Zealanders — may die out, and
there's also anger at the inclusion of an offensive t-shirt in a
museum exhibition. Can a 20-minute homily fix it? Find out in this
month's show.

the region's public transport provider stumping up the cash. Our Lady

Is the pope's view of Ukraine blurred by 'ecumenical correctness'?
http://www.cruxnow.com/church/2015/02/05/is-the-popes-view-of-ukraine-blurred-by-ecumenical-correctness/
Whenever a conflict breaks out in some corner of the world, popes
generally strive to remain neutral so they can act as potential
healers and mediators. On the other hand, popes also are expected to
have the back of their own flock if they're the ones under fire.
Striking the right balance between neutrality and loyalty can be
tricky, as Francis' recent rhetoric on Ukraine illustrates...

When Pope Francis rips 'proselytism,' who's he talking about?

On the list of what Italian writer Vittorio Messori calls the
"perplexities" about Pope Francis, meaning things that are sometimes
hard to figure out, one item probably has to be the pontiff's attitude

about the imperative of evangelization and spreading the faith. On the

interview, and during an ecumenical vespers service Sunday evening at
the Basilica of St. Paul's Outside the Walls he called on all
Christian churches to reject "proselytism and competition in all their
