"And the sun stood still" Joshua 10:13
'Galileo: Scientist, Astronomer, Visionary' is an exhibition of the
works of the eminent Italian scientist Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) at
the Canterbury Museum. The exhibition's website declares that
"Galileo's radical theories about Earth's place in the solar system
saw him imprisoned by church authorities"
https://www.canterburymuseum.com/whats-on/galileo-scientist-astronomer-visionary/
and this claim is repeated by other media.
This legend of the imprisonment of Galileo is a fable. For presenting
as proven fact his theory that the earth moves, rather than the sun,
contrary to Scripture (Joshua 10:13), he was sentenced to house arrest
at his home near Florence and banned from publishing and meeting other
scientists. He ignored both bans and received a number of colleagues
at home. He also continued his researches and published groundbreaking
work on two new sciences.

could soon change now that year 10 students at the Kilbirnie girls'

What is the Catholic Communion controversy?
https://cruxnow.com/church-in-the-usa/2021/06/what-is-the-catholic-communion-controversy/
A committee of U.S. Catholic bishops is getting to work on a policy
document that has stirred controversy among their colleagues before a
word of it has even been written. The U.S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops overwhelmingly approved the drafting of a document "on the
meaning of the Eucharist in the life of the Church" that some bishops
hope will be a rebuke for politicians who support abortion rights but
continue to receive Communion ...

Molly Conway made a vow to her dying mother that she'd become a nun.
It was not all that uncommon in the late 19th century, when The
Calling is set, except her dad is a Methodist and his new wife doesn't
discover until she moves in that her stepdaughter is one of those
hated Catholics. She burns all the 15-year-old's religious treasures,
save for a letter from Mother Mary Joseph Aubert, the French nun who
has set up a mission station on the Whanganui River. That burning is
the catalyst for the devout and hard-working teen to leave her home
and three young brothers and set off on foot for Jerusalem, in search
of the woman she has long dreamed of meeting.

Last mass at historic Wellington Catholic church St Gerard's feels bittersweet
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/125221804/last-mass-at-historic-wellington-catholic-church-st-gerards-feels-bittersweet
As Cardinal John Dew shuts the doors of St Gerard's church for the
last time, a hush falls over the congregation. Soft piano notes
reverberate up to the criss-crossed rafters. It was a solemn way to
conclude the final mass held in the peach-coloured building which,
nestled on a hill in Mt Victoria, has been a landmark in Wellington's
skyline for the past 113 years.

[From Wikipedia: The Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer were founded in
1988 as a traditionalist Redemptorist religious community affiliated
with the Society of Saint Pius X (Lefebvrites). In June 2008, the
community petitioned the Holy See for reconciliation and this was
accepted by Pope Benedict XVI who declared them to be in "canonical
good standing" within the Catholic Church.]

The company, which owns the Tiwai Point aluminum smelter, last week
donated plastic drawstring bags to Bluff School pupils which contained
plastic drink bottles, plastic straws, lollipops and balloons. Bluff
is also home to Catholic school St Teresa's, but teacher Rosi Coyle

Yet another amendment to the Vatican's legal system was introduced by
Pope Francis on Friday, which, in some quarters, is being hailed as a
dramatic step toward accountability, but it has elicited skepticism
and cynicism in others. In effect, the amendment – published in the
form of a motu proprio, meaning a change to church law under the
pope's personal authority – allows the Vatican's regular civil courts
to try cases against cardinals and bishops.

pope's personal authority – allows the Vatican's regular civil courts
to try cases against cardinals and bishops.
