Seven sins, four editorials and three columns

[At least four editorial writers and three columnists were inspired to write
at length on the Vatican's list of seven deadly sins of the modern era,
mostly with a facetious or hostile tone. While comments like this are
disagreeable and even distressing, there is another way of looking at them.
To be attacked is to be taken seriously. When we find we are being ignored,
that's when we should be worried. ML]

ALL THINGS CATHOLIC
Analysis and commentary by John R. Allen

http://ncrcafe.org/node/507

Giving a name to historical change
On Tuesday I was in Dayton, Ohio, where the University of Dayton put
together a panel to discuss my argument that "evangelical Catholicism"
constitutes a mega-trend in Catholic life. Aside from me, the panelists were
William Portier, who holds the Mary Ann Spearin Chair in Catholic Theology
at the University of Dayton; and David J. O'Brien, Loyola Professor of Roman
Catholic Studies at the College of the Holy Cross. Both Portier and O'Brien
had used the phrase "evangelical Catholicism" before I did. What became
clear on Tuesday was that each of us thinks "evangelical Catholicism" is
important, but each of us is actually talking about something quite
different...
