Antonio Sakari is currently working as a fulltime caregiver for his
grandfather but has a new role lined up for 2012 that will make good
use of his likeable and caring personality. The 21-year-old New
Zealand-born Tokelauan has been chosen as one of 50 young adults
worldwide to join the National Evangelising Team, an international
organisation working for the Catholic Church whose purpose is to
spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to young people...

As part of the 100 year celebrations at the Sacred Heart Basilica over
the weekend South Canterbury Herald was invited to go inside the
special room that houses historic cassocks, capes, copes, medals, a
tabernacle, a biretta (hat), aspersorium (bucket), aspergillum (water
sprinkler), relics and other precious items used in Catholic ritual in
the past.

First there was silence, then the sound of a ship's bell tolling 10
times ringing out across the water. The end of the formal part of the
annual Blessing of the Fleet provided a touching reminder that the
colourful festival on Nelson Harbour is also about remembering those
