Catholic Communities Welcome Refugees
Press Release: Caritas Aotearoa
Caritas, as one of four organisations approved for the new Community Organisation Refugee Sponsorship (CORS) programme, will lead the coordination of a number of Catholic organisations who will support a refugee family to settle in New Zealand.

Veteran journalist Pat Booth dies, aged 88
Veteran journalist Pat Booth has passed away at a rest home in Kumeu after a short illness. Sally Collings, his youngest daughter, confirmed he passed away about 1.20pm today. "Pat Booth was a very respected journalist, but not only that he was loving father of four children," she said. "We will miss him and his stories ... and we love him." Ms Collings said her father was proud of his work covering the infamous Arthur Allan Thomas case, and the Mr Asia crime syndicates.

Australasian head of the order at St John of God Brother Peter Burke, pictured in 2002, the year compensation processes for men abused at Marylands School began. Critics say payouts have become smaller and non-negotiable since Burke resigned in 2007. He died in 2010.

In a "moving" powhiri yesterday, two school communities came together to welcome the new principal of Sacred Heart College. Havelock North High School, led by principal Greg Fenton "handed over" their former deputy principal, Maria Neville-Foster, to the Catholic girls' secondary school.
