A 40-day anti-abortion prayer vigil protest outside Wellington
Hospital has resulted in staff steering vulnerable female patients to
alternative hospital entries. Catholic organisation Family Life
International's vigil, part of a 40 Days for Life campaign, is due to
continue from 8am until 8pm each day until April 13, in the lead-up to
Easter in honour of Lent.

When Father Francis Patrick Garty, QSM, spoke, people listened. The
Catholic priest served the church for nearly 70 years before he died
at New Plymouth's Sunhaven Rest Home on Tuesday, aged 93.

Sister Loyola Galvin may be in retirement but she is still gardening.
The nun in her early 90s was invested by Governor-General Sir Jerry
Mateparae in a ceremony at Government House today. She was made a
Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to gardening.

A century-old convent's transformation into a gracious family home got
a tick from perhaps the hardest people to please - the nuns who used
to live there. The former Brigidine Sisters convent, built in Pahiatua
in 1912, was bought and trucked to Greytown in December by retired
academic John Bushnell to be turned into a four-bedroom home for him
and his wife.

The Hamilton East Community Trust has been awarded $38,000 from the
Ministry for the Environment's Environmental Legal Assistance Fund to
assist with its fight to save the historic Euphrasie House in Clyde St
from demolition. The 75-year-old Spanish styled convent had been used
as a boarding hostel for girls attending the Catholic Sacred Heart
Girls' College across the road.
