Death of former Christchurch Catholic bishop the 'end of an era'
Hundreds of Catholics gathered in Christchurch on Tuesday to remember the late Reverend Basil Meeking, the seventh Catholic Bishop of Christchurch. who  died on June 11, aged 90 at Christchurch Hospital after a recent period of ill-health.

Parish apologises for sign
The Pastoral Council for the Wairarapa Catholic Parish has issued a formal apology for the 'All Lives Matter' sign displayed outside St. Patrick's Church last week, which garnered coverage from every major media outlet in New Zealand.

Archbishop of Wellington rejects 'all lives matter' message at church
The Archbishop of Wellington has condemned a sign reading 'All lives matter' that was displayed outside a Catholic church over the weekend. In a statement, Cardinal John Dew said the sign was put up without the knowledge of the parish priest while he was away on leave.

Mangere school stabbing: Four teenagers charged
Four teenage boys have been arrested and charged after a stabbing outside an Auckland school. The incident, which occurred at De La Salle College, Mangere, on Friday, involved between 20 and 30 male youths, including pupils from Tamaki College, and saw two students taken to hospital.

Covid 19 coronavirus: Marist College cluster officially closed by Ministry of Health
There were a total of 96 confirmed Covid-19 cases linked to the Marist College cluster but now it's officially closed. A teacher was the first person at the school to test positive and at the start of New Zealand's pandemic response, the cluster was the largest in the country before falling to second behind the Bluff wedding with 98 cases.

Marist College students hold Black Lives Matter protest after posters torn down
Students and parents held a Black Lives Matter protest outside Auckland's Marist College after posters supporting the movement at the school were ripped down by senior staff. About 30 people gathered outside the Catholic school, in Mt Albert, with signs calling on the school to show support.

Anna, Don, James and Gavin discuss the death of George Floyd and the major protests — and riots — that ensued. On the COVID-19 front, Catholic schools in New Zealand are supporting parents with fee relief, while some priests have been struggling with the lockdown and what it says about them and their ministry. At least one priest has found a unique approach to social distancing and blessings, using a water pistol to continue a long-held tradition. Innovative or inappropriate?

Pope Francis has given the Virgin Mary three new titles, the Vatican announced Saturday, which will be added to the Catholic Church's traditional "Litany of Mary," including one that reflects a signature preoccupation of this pope. The new titles are "Mother of Mercy," "Mother of Hope," and "Comfort of Migrants ..."
