Dear subscribers to Yahoo Groups ...

Yahoo! intends to shut down the YahooGroups service which has hosted Kiwicath since the early 2000s. The service will cease in just over two weeks' time, from the 15th of December.

To continue reading Kiwicath News & Notes, please open this link: http://kiwicathnewsandnotes.blogspot.com/

God bless,
Mike Leon

FROM THE SECULAR PRESS

Smashing time as stormy wind wreaks havoc
A blustery weekend for the South resulted in widespread power outages, keeping fire and power crews busy. Strong winds caused part of the spire at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Rimu St, Invercargill, to come loose and the area was cordoned off to protect the public, the spokesman said.

Turning the Covid-19 death toll into music
When sound artist Daniel Beban thinks of this year's lockdown, he thinks of the daily death toll. So was born Daily Deaths, a new work which literally allows audiences to experience the unfolding days, weeks and months of the Covid-19 pandemic in sound. The hour-long piece is due to be performed at the Futuna Chapel in Karori, Wellington ...

Abuse in Care: Catholic Church loses bid to keep names of abusers secret
The Catholic Church has lost its bid to keep the identities of perpetrators and those accused of covering up abuse secret at the upcoming Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry hearing. The Catholic Church - in an application supported by the Anglican Church and Salvation Army - said they sought non-publication orders because they had not been given enough time to contact those who would be named, and the families of those now deceased.

Carols on the Lawn returning after being rained off last year
After being rained off last year, Carols on the Lawn is returning to New Plymouth this Christmas. Bev Glover-Paix started the suburban sing-along in 2017, and expects this year's, on December 9, to be the biggest one yet.

NEWS OF THE SCHOOLS

Principal says quarry's potential health risk 'of huge concern'
A Featherston principal brought concerns over a quarry in the South Wairarapa town to the district council table yesterday. Jennifer Muth represented the St Teresa's Primary School board at a South Wairarapa District Council meeting in Martinborough.

Water, water everywhere - heavy rain leads to flooding in Taranaki
Hours of constant rain on Wednesday morning caused surface flooding and traffic chaos around Taranaki. St Joseph's Primary School, New Plymouth, principal Mike Dowd rolled up his trousers and helped ferry students across a flooded Calvert Rd.

Donated school goods part of military airlift to Tokelau
Toys, books and sports equipment donated from Wairarapa's Chanel College have added a personal touch to a substantial infrastructure delivery to Tokelau by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

Mountain bike tracks planned
A block of land at St Kevin's College is being given an exhilarating new lease of life. The school is planting a hill block with native trees and within that creating a 2km downhill mountain bike track, in conjunction with Mountain Biking North Otago.

Principal excited by plans to modernise
The heart of St Joseph's School is the people, not the buildings, but principal Lorraine Frances-Rees is thrilled major changes are afoot. Last week, the Catholic Diocese of Dunedin, which owns the school, announced a commitment to fund substantial work to modernise the school's buildings.

Student barred from mainstream classes for a year is back in a school uniform
More than a year of being locked out of mainstream schooling has finally ended for Kalen.
Kalen is finally back at school. More than a year after the seven-year-old was expelled from Tokoroa's Tainui Full Primary School for extensive behavioural issues and left without any formal education since December when his homeschooling tutor left, he's just completed his second week at Saint Mary's Catholic School in Putaruru.
