Former Christchurch Catholic bishop Basil Meeking dies
The seventh Catholic Bishop of Christchurch – Reverend Basil Meeking - has died. Meeking was first ordained as a priest in 1953 and served as Bishop of Christchurch from 1987 until 1996. He died aged 90 at Christchurch Hospital after a recent period of ill-health, current Bishop of Christchurch Paul Martin announced on Thursday.

New priest for Palmerston North Catholic diocese
Palmerston North's Catholic diocese has new priest after the belated ordination of Trung Nguyen. Nguyen was ordained at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit on Saturday, having had the event postponed from April due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Royal Commission Seeks Information From Faith-based Abuse Survivors On Their Claims For Redress

The Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry is appealing for information from survivors who reported the abuse they suffered while in faith-based care and sought redress either directly from the Church or other Faith-based Institution or by filing civil proceedings in Court or the Human Rights Review Tribunal.

Foundations are about to be poured later this week for a new church and community centre in Chapel Road, Flat Bush. PM responds to letter from Timaru girl wanting to book sleepover
An eight-year-old Timaru girl keen to know how long she would have to wait to have a sleepover with her best friend, wrote to the Prime Minister to ask during Covid-9 Level 3. Pypa's mother Kit Winter-Davis said the girls had been friends since they were the age of one and both attended Timaru's Sacred Heart Primary School.
