LENT 2022:  "Called to be peacemakers"

Lent is a period of forty days of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Easter.

Each year the Lent Appeal is run by Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand on behalf of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops' Conference (NZCBC) to support its work of charity and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable around the world, including New Zealand.

Caritas also makes resources available to guide reflection and prayer throughout the six weeks of Lent on the theme of the year.

The future of a Bell Block section used to house pensioners for almost 40 years remains undecided. The New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) was due to decide on Tuesday whether to pay the Catholic Church almost $2 million for the Wynyard St section it has leased for just $1 a year.
