The summer out of high school, an 18-year-old from Eltham decided to pack up her things and begin a life of sisterhood. Barbara Henley shares her story for Aotearoa in 20, a Stuff special project.

Churches to be sold
After many months of deliberation, the fate of five Wairarapa church buildings owned by the Catholic Church has been decided, with three set to be sold.

Euthanasia referendum: Kiwis of faith split on End of Life Choice Act
On October 17, New Zealanders will get to vote on a piece of legislation called the End of Life Choice Act, which would allow eligible terminally ill adults the option to request medication that would end their life, in a binding referendum. Of the nearly 40,000 submissions made on the End of Life Choice Bill, most were in opposition – some citing religious reasons.

Building of new church on target
Wet weather couldn't stop a lone construction worker continuing progress on the new St Lukes Catholic Church on Chapel Rd, Flat Bush. The church will also be the spiritual home for nearby Sancta Maria College and Sancta Maria Catholic Primary School.

The Ministry of Education plans to remind educators of the "appropriate approach" during election season after a Stratford Catholic school upset parents by sending an email with reasons to 'vote no' in the euthanasia and cannabis referendums.

Covid-19 case linked to West Auckland's St Dominic's College
St Dominic's Catholic College, a West Auckland high school, has closed after one of its students tested positive for coronavirus. 

Student who tested positive an 'undisclosed contact' - Hipkins
Health Minister Chris Hipkins says it has become apparent some close contacts of the Mt Roskill Evangelical Fellowship church sub-cluster were not previously disclosed, including a student that recently tested positive. A student at St Dominic's Catholic College in Auckland has tested positive for Covid-19, and has been linked to the sub-cluster.

A college-branded mask has become a part of the school uniform on a voluntary basis for students at South Auckland's De La Salle College.

Female Roncalli College students venture into male-dominated trades
An interest in cars, and a love of being hands on, has led two 16-year-old Roncalli College students into wanting to work in male-dominated trades.

St Kevin's netballers stand out
Jasmine Emery and Tegan Souness' talent shone at the Otago Southland secondary schools netball tournament in Invercargill last week. The two St Kevin's College year 12 pupils were named as talented players in the tournament's A grade.

'Sisterhood' rugby side in Hamilton goes from cricket-score losses to triumph (text and video)
Some of Hamilton's Sacred Heart Girls' College 1st XV defeats in 2019 read more like cricket scores than rugby results. But within 12 months they'd turned that around to be Waikato champions.

Five St. John's College (Hastings) students have proven that age is only a number, after achieving high marks in first-year university papers.
