New Zealand's Catholic bishops are seriously concerned by a false statement circulating widely online that claims they are urging Catholics to vote for the New Conservative political party.

Letter from Bishops to Parishes on new Covid-19 restrictions (12 August 2020)
The six Catholic bishops of Aotearoa New Zealand met this afternoon to discuss the pastoral implications of the new Covid-19 Alert Level restrictions which took effect at Noon. Auckland has been moved to Alert Level 3, under which Mass cannot be celebrated.

New Zealand Catholic bishops have condemned a fake statement circulated online claiming they had endorsed the New Conservative Party.

The dean has been overwhelmed by the level of support following a fire at St Paul's Anglican Cathedral earlier in the week, including from Dunedin's Catholics. The church had accepted an offer from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dunedin to use St Joseph's Cathedral for a service tomorrow afternoon.

An 141-year-old Temuka church has been granted $25,000 to restore 31 stained-glass windows donated by its original parishioners. The restoration of the 137-year-old windows is part of a more than $2 million project to upgrade and earthquake-strengthen St Joseph's Catholic Church that was built with limestone taken from Opihi River in 1879 and damaged in the magnitude 7.1 quake that hit Canterbury in 2010.

Massive proposed earthworks sparks concern for environmental restoration
A popular green space north of Wellington is at risk if the equivalent of 220 Olympic-sized swimming pools of clean fill are placed around the site for a proposed development, locals say. Work on the land adjacent to St Patrick's College at Silverstream, Upper Hutt, would raise the area by 3 metres using 550,000 cubic metres of fill.

A group of Francis Douglas students have been told to stay at home after they visited the Rotorua luge at the same time as an Auckland family who have tested positive for Covid-19.

Marist College reaches out to support new Mt Albert schools struck by virus
The school that was worst-hit by New Zealand's first coronavirus wave, Marist College, has reached out to help schools that have been hit in the virus's second wave.

Cook Islands culture celebrated
Invercargill's St Patrick's School pupils embraced this year's Cook Islands Language Week with open arms. About 200 year 0-6 pupils participated in lessons ranging from how to make 'ei katu (head garlands of flowers) to tivaevae (traditional Polynesian quilting) and ika mata (raw fish dish).
