Catholic Principal and Prison Chaplain celebrated in honours list

Georgina Kingi, the long-time principal and teacher of St Joseph's Maori Girls College has received the country's highest honour. Also named in this year's honours list is Catholic Prison Chaplain Mary Kamo as a Companion of the Order of Merit for her services to prisoners.

Catholic churches in Southland conduct masses in Filipino to support growing community
In the lead-up to Christmas, an unfamiliar language was being heard in churches across Southland. Beginning in November, the Catholic Diocese of Dunedin had begun to conduct monthly Filipino-language masses around Otago and Southland.

For nearly half a century, Hawke's Bay's newest dame has been ensuring Maori girls receive quality education. St Joseph's Maori Girls College principal Georgina Kingi, QSO, will be made a dame companion for services to Maori and education.

There's a walk which Di Lenihan is very used to. The Civic Theatre, First Presbyterian Church, school halls, womens' clubs - there are not many places she hasn't made the walk across the stage to place the musical score on the stand and lead a choir in multiple-part harmony.
