New Zealander Br Peter Bray FSC – the Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University in the Holy Land – is not surprised by the Hamas attack on Israel at the weekend. He says his students and staff appear all to be safe.

** A warm thank you and ka pai to the six priests from our six dioceses who organised the uplifting and successful National Assembly of Diocesan Priests in Rotorua this week (several reports and photo features follow from the Assembly)

** The Synod of Round Tables: In this assembly, the synod hall has a different layout from what used to be in the other synods before. The amphitheatre format used in other synod assemblies has been abandoned and the use of round tables has been adopted, where 12 people at each table sit side by side, face to face, eye to eye, comprising of bishops, priests, Religious men and women and lay men and women

** At the Vatican Synod briefing on Wednesday,  briefings were held about the General Assembly's discussions on the issues of poverty, migration, abuse, the role of women, and sexual identity. 

** Archbishop Paul was one of two bishops who told a US Catholic news service they are working to ensure Indigenous Catholics have "a seat at the table" in the Church

** At the Synod being held in Rome right now: Auckland Vicar for Maori Manuel Beazley meets Pope Francis; and the three official NZ representatives at the Synod

Flood damage swept under new carpet
"There is almost zero trace" that St Peter's College classrooms were flood damaged this time two weeks ago, college principal Tara Quinney says.

Long-time Timaru sports broadcaster Mike Richards dies
