Parliament's Justice Select Committee are calling for New Zealanders to submit their views on David Seymour's 'End of Life Choice' Bill, which seeks to legalise euthanasia and assisted suicide in New Zealand. On the weekend of the 27 and 28 January, the New Zealand Catholic Bishops will be sending a letter to all parishes in New Zealand for Masses, encouraging everyone to make their voices heard on this crucial issue by making a submission ...

First new Catholic church in Christchurch since quake is a 'jewel in the crown' for sisters (photos)
Christchurch's first new Catholic church since the earthquakes – the rebuilt Nazareth House chapel – has been opened. The chapel replaces one lost to the earthquakes at the Sydenham site and has been built as part of a $70 million development by the Sisters of Nazareth.

When former shepherd Father Michael Hishon was in his 20s, he changed his flock from sheep to people. At the age of 29, the Lincoln University graduate, who also worked in sheep genetics for the former Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, entered the Catholic priesthood.

Erskine College chapel will 'finally' be strengthened after court decision (photos)
An Environment Court decision has backed plans to demolish heritage buildings at Island Bay's Erskine College to make way for 96 townhouses. A condition of the Environment Court consent is that the dilapidated chapel on the site must be strengthened before any other work, including demolition, can take place.

Life story: Jack Ryan's solid foundations for success (photos)
The contractor, goldminer, farmer, forester and land developer had strong work ethic and worked until a year before his death on November 25, last year, aged 91. He was the last of the Ryan brothers, who ran a prominent contracting business in Christchurch.
