A parish which runs from Kaikoura to Picton is in shock after their priest suddenly died. Father John Pearce died on Sunday afternoon at Blenheim Airport, where he was about to depart for Rome.

Survivors of sexual abuse at the hands of clergymen are outraged three senior bishops attended a funeral celebrating the life of an abusive priest. The requiem mass for Father Thomas "Tom" Laffey was held in Ponsonby, Auckland, on Friday and attended by Bishop of Auckland Patrick Dunn, Bishop Emeritus Dennis Browne and former Bishop of Rarotonga Stuart O'Connell, Stuff understands. 

New museum in North Hokianga 'will rival any' in Far North
A new museum being built at a remote North Hokianga marae will rival any in the Far North, a curator says. Most items in the collection — which include Maori and Polynesian artefacts and objects relating to the history of the Catholic church in New Zealand — were collected by the late Pa Henare Tate over a period of 30 years. Others were donated to Motuti Marae by international visitors.

When Mary and twin sister Jo were born on the farm run by the sisters of St Mary's Convent, on what is now St John's College, on New Year's Eve 1923, Hamilton had two  bridges, many suburban roads were dirt, and cyclists got around at night using carbide lamps. Her parents, Irish immigrants Charles and Margaret Lynch, helped work the farm for the sisters, and were responsible for milking the cows.
