realised that a long journey may soon be over. The global primate of the
Traditional Anglican Communion, a conservative offshoot of the US Episcopal

The Breaking Of Bread. Christ at Emmaus is nearly everybody's favourite
Easter story (full text)
The disciples "recognised Jesus in the breaking of bread", and as Richard
Dowden notes in his article on Eucharist, the phrase 'breaking of bread'
became the early Christian shorthand for the ceremony of Eucharist. That
phrase reminds us how closely the first believers associated their
eucharistic gatherings with faith in Christ Risen. Easter had changed their
lives for ever: it changed the likes of Peter and John from craven cowards
into courageous leaders....

April 2005
(This issue was printed before the death of Pope John Paul)
