This coming Sixth Sunday of Easter – May 5 – has been designated by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference and the New Zealand Lutheran Church as the "Festival of New Life", an occasion meant to signal hope and confidence in the move towards Christian unity. It is an initiative of the Lutheran-Roman Catholic Dialogue, highlighting baptism and its significance for Christian unity ...

** St Peter's College in Palmerston North is celebrating its 50th Jubilee on Labour Weekend.

'One of the greats': Sir Vincent O'Sullivan dies
Poet Sir Vincent O'Sullivan died yesterday in Dunedin, his son has confirmed. He was 86. His son, Dominic O'Sullivan, announced the death on his Facebook page. "Hei aitua hoki, kua hinga toku matua," he wrote. "I am profoundly sad to share that my father, Emeritus Professor Sir Vincent O'Sullivan, died in Dunedin late yesterday. I was present with his wife Helen."In the next day or two, Vince will travel to the Home of Compassion in Island Bay, where he will repose ahead of his Requiem Mass later in the week at St Mary of the Angels, Wellington ..."

St John's marks 100 years as parish

New Christchurch Catholic cathedral will be built on Barbadoes St site
Christchurch's new Catholic cathedral will be built on Barbadoes Street, Bishop Michael Gielen announced in a pastoral letter to the Catholic community this weekend. In the letter, titled "Returning to Our Roots, Embracing Our Future", Bishop Gielen said the decision was reached after hearing from a range of key advisers and technical experts, as well as the responses to a survey of the wider community ...



** Thursday April 25 is Anzac Day, which commemorates New Zealanders killed in war and honours returned and serving servicemen and women. The National Liturgy Office has prayers and other resources for this special day.

** The new Catholic cathedral in Christchurch will be built on the Barbadoes Street site of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament destroyed in the 2011 earthquake, Bishop Michael Gielen has announced.

** Delargey Awards 2024: The NZ Catholic Bishops Conference is seeking nominations for the 2024 Delargey Awards, which recognise significant and outstanding contributions made in the field of Catholic ministry with young people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
