A Catholic ''crisis pregnancy centre'' is set to open in Dunedin but a pro-choice group has concerns the centre will counsel vulnerable women against the ''evils of abortion''.

Five people claiming they were abused in New Zealand Catholic schools and boarding houses have come forward after damning inquiries in Australia. The New Zealanders, all of whom now live in Australia, have alleged physical and sexual abuse while in Catholic institutions, mostly in and around the 1960s.

Catholic Communities of North Taranaki will gather at the TSB Stadium in New Plymouth this Sunday. Bishop Charles Drennan, Bishop of the Palmerston North Diocese, will celebrate Mass during which the Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred on a group of young people from North Taranaki.
