Monsignor Bob Oliver is out to capture paedophile priests,
surrendering them to civil law, then exacting whatever punishment the
Catholic Church can mete out. It makes him a lightning rod for
anti-church sentiment, forces him to confront the church's dark past
and its worst miscreants, and means many meetings with victims, often
talking of their abuse for the first time.

magnificent French gothic church that stands today. Parish priest
Father Barry Scannell hopes that generosity will be repeated this
century to fund a $9.35 million earthquake strengthening bill.

Only 10 years ago members of the congregation at St Benedict's
Catholic church in inner-city Auckland raised about $2 million to
lovingly restore their Victorian red brick church. Now they face a
bill of up to $8 million to do the same again.
