LENT 2015

NZ Catholic Bishops' Conference: The Season of Lent
http://www.catholic.org.nz/liturgical-season/dsp-default.cfm?loadref=38

Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand: Lent in schools
http://www.caritas.org.nz/schools/lent-schools
For Lent 2015 the theme is "Light a fire in the heart of the world",
taken from Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The
Joy of the Gospel).

The primary purpose of this year's Lenten resources is to educate
young people about the vulnerability of nations to natural disasters.
The aim of Caritas and its partners in the Pacific and in the
Philippines, is to go beyond the stage of simple material distribution
of basic supplies to rebuilding in such a way that communities are
less vulnerable to future events.

The resources are available on the linked Website.

Mieke and Maurice Davies are the new hosts of a residential programme
for youth wanting to deepen their faith. The Blenheim artist has made
Palmerston North her new home after marrying teen sweetheart Maurice
Davies last Easter. ''Home'' there is a large old house owned by the
Palmerston North Catholic diocese and used as a year-long residential
base for young adults wanting to deepen their faith...

He has been anointed by the Pope, but Wellington's new cardinal is
still prey to the tribulations that affect ordinary mortals. John Dew
arrived home last Wednesday after being inducted in Rome as one of 20
new cardinals, but his luggage - including the scarlet cassock that
had its first outing in the Vatican ceremony - was not with him.

Timaru parishioners filled the Woodlands Rd Methodist Church Hall for
yesterday's World Day of Prayer celebrations. It was a combined church
service with the Methodist, Union, Presbyterian, Salvation Army,
Catholic, Baptist and Brethren churches involved. Each year a
different country is in charge of preparing the service and this year
it was the Bahamas turn.

Paul Little: Women who are second to nun (photo)

Why are there people in extreme poverty when others have private
planes? Why are children dying from diseases for which vaccines exist?
And how did Lady Gaga end up at the Academy Awards, radiant in a
shimmering ball gown, singing a medley from The Sound of Music? That
movie is 50 years old this year and seems to be as influential as
ever. It gave me an early case of cognitive dissonance because I was
taught by nuns at primary school. To an 8-year-old, nuns were nuns and
nothing but...

first district probation officer for Timaru and in fact for Oamaru and
Ashburton.

This week:

** Finding Peace After Traumatic Events (Matt O'Connell)
"In the wake of the devastating earthquakes in Christchurch in
September 2010 and February 2011, I lost my peace. Fr Jacques
Phillipe's book Searching For and Maintaining Interior Peace and a
homily from Pope Benedict XVI helped me find that peace again. Here is
my story..."

** Beautiful Mummy Bodies (Jacinta Malone)
"I was 9 months pregnant with Baby Number 3 and 'big' was not an
exaggeration. I don't do cute-basketball-belly. I'm more like
"Are-you-sure-you-aren't-having-twins-or-at-least-3-basketballs?" type
belly ..."

** A Child's First Educators: The Family (Carrie McCormack)
Life consists of many meals and plenty of work.

** A Poopy, Facebook-Free(Ish) Lunge Into Lent (Lucy O'Donoghue)
"So, how's your Lent going, eh? Mine started with a bang. And that's
not a metaphor..."

** 6 Ways To Fit Prayer Into A Busy Life (Chelsea Houghton)
"I'm a mother of four children ranging in age from 1 to 5. I run a
website (Restless Press), and there are numerous projects, people and
constant events going on in my life. How do I fit a prayer life into
that? ..."
