Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Soon all of us - our faith communities of parishes and their schools
and colleges, our Catholic marae, our social services and various
chaplaincies – will celebrate together with the universal Church a
Jubilee Year of Mercy. It will be a year of deep spiritual renewal,
boundless forgiveness, and liberating service in our neighbourhoods,
especially among those who suffer or struggle most...

Concern over Hato Petera 'misinformation' (photo)
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11557927
The local Catholic hierarchy says it's "most concerned" after
misinformation was spread in discussions about a troubled Auckland
Maori school. Yesterday, Northcote school Hato Petera released an
upbeat statement about its future, announcing boarding facilities
would be open next year. But today the Catholic Diocese of Auckland
said it was "surprised and most concerned" about the statement, and
said the new group of trustees was not legally constituted. "The
diocese is deeply concerned about the misinformation that has been
given to students and their whanau, as boarding facilities will not be
available" ...

'Brave' speech highlights Roncalli head boy's battle with depression (photo)

"I had a very challenging year and wasn't always as happy as I may
have seemed." It was not a typical start to an end-of-year prizegiving
speech, but that's exactly what Timaru's Roncalli College head boy
Josh Batchelor wanted...

Sisters of Mercy, were Sister Mary Hilary, the first principal, who
taught standards 2 and 4, and Sister Mary Gerard, who taught the new
entrants, then called ''infants''. St Mary's parish was created in
1951...
