Plans that could save an Auckland retirement village from demolition have been released. Auckland Council has earmarked Liston Village for demolition under plans to extend Monte Cecilia Park in Hillsborough. Opponents have highlighted a lack of social housing options for the elderly and labelled the plans as a "problematic concept".

Hutt schools funded to trial innovative teaching approaches
Chris Bishop, National List MP based in the Hutt Valley, says he can't wait to see the results of a Hutt Valley schools' project in 2 years' time which has been given $300,000 as part of a fund to encourage innovative teaching practices. "This project involves eight schools including St Patrick's College (Silverstream), St Bernard's College and Sacred Heart College here in the Hutt. It aims to enhance student outcomes in technology in a number of Catholic secondary schools.

Also: Housing mooted for site 
A piece of land near Arrowtown once earmarked for a second campus for St Joseph's School could be subdivided for new housing. Last November the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dunedin abandoned plans for a $5 million second campus for the school.
